Dear Daughter,

Your presence came as a surprise but from the moment that I found out you were going to be my sweet little baby GIRL my heart could not contain the excitement. As a mom of two boys I did not know what to expect but nevertheless I felt extremely blessed that God gave me this magnificent opportunity to be your mother. You were the perfect, calm and sweet baby inside of the womb. I was a little concerned at first because both of your brothers were quite the opposite! I soon realized after many checkups and doctor visits that you were perfectly fine.

Throughout my pregnancy I was able to maintain my physical fitness routine and often went for walks with your brothers as well as exercised at the gym with my friends. That helped out in the long run because the doctors informed me a week or so before your scheduled induction date that you were going to be at least NINE POUNDS! With the support of your father, grandmother and the team of doctors and nurses, I mustered up the strength to deliver you at 12:55 PM on February 15, 2018. You weighed a WHOPPING 10 pounds and 4 ounces!! Your father and I named you Nia Constance Imani Williams, a name we had picked out together while we dated in college. I wanted you to have a piece of my family history so we incorporated my middle name and your great grandmother’s middle name (Constance) into your name.

Your first year of life has been so special to me as I had the opportunity to stay home with you fulltime. I did not have the same opportunity with your older brothers and the bond we formed during this first year will be something that I will never forget. I pray that the smiles, laughs, and cries we shared together helped you feel loved and cherished as only a mother and child can relate to. I know that as you get older your dependence on me will get less and less but for now I love being there for you hand and foot to help you navigate through this new world of yours.

As we celebrate your first year of life as a family my prayer for you will always be to keep being the light that brightens up every room you enter. Your smile and laughter are so contagious and I never want you to lose that sparkle. I promise as your mother to nourish and protect you and to be the best support system a daughter could ever ask for or need. I know that as a parent sometimes we can push our dreams and insecurities onto our kids and I vow to never be that person. I want you to live the life that God has ordained for you and not live your life to please other people.

When I look into your eyes I see such a pure and innocent soul and I wish I could keep you this way forever. I’m not ready to introduce you to the lows that this world may offer you but I know that’s not reality. Instead of wasting time thinking about what’s to come I will choose to live every day presently and cherish the daily journey that we take together. I’m honored to be your mother and I just want you to know that I will always love you, now and forever more. Happy 1st birthday my dearest daughter! The world is yours!
This is so beautiful! I wiped a tear.
